Congress Trading Trackers Compared: Free vs. Paid in 2026

Interest in tracking what members of Congress are trading has grown enough that there are now several real tools built around it, with wildly different prices attached. Since we built our own free feed, it's worth being straight about how it stacks up against the others, including where they're better than we are.

Every one of these tools pulls from the same underlying source: the STOCK Act disclosures members of Congress are legally required to file. Nobody has proprietary data here. What you're actually paying for, when you pay for it, is speed, convenience, and extra features layered on top of public filings.

Capitol Trades: Free, No Account, Both Chambers

Capitol Trades is fully free to browse, no signup, no paywall anywhere on the site. It covers both the House and the Senate, which is a real advantage over us right now (see below). The tradeoffs: no CSV export, no API, and its historical data caps out after a few years back.

Quiver Quantitative: Free Tier, Paid API

Quiver Quantitative offers a free tier for browsing congressional trade data, with paid plans layered on top for API access and heavier usage. We'll say plainly what we could confirm and what we couldn't: actual pricing for those paid tiers sits behind a required account signup, so we're not going to quote a number here we can't verify firsthand. If programmatic API access to congressional trading data is specifically what you need, this is the tool built for that use case; the free tier alone won't get you there.

Unusual Whales: Bundled Into a Bigger Platform

Unusual Whales includes congressional trade tracking as one feature inside a much larger options-flow and dark-pool trading platform. As of this writing, the cheapest plan that includes politician trade data is $50/month (Retail Basic, billed monthly), scaling up to $120/month for the highest retail tier. You're not paying for congressional trades specifically, you're paying for a full trading dashboard that happens to include them.

This Site: Free Feed, Optional $5/Month Alerts

Our Congress Trades feed is free, always, with no signup required to browse it. Every disclosure links straight back to the original government filing PDF, so you can verify the source yourself instead of taking our word for it. The one paid layer is entirely optional: $5/month gets you an email the moment something new is filed, instead of checking back manually. It doesn't gate the underlying data. The free feed and the paid alerts show you the exact same information; the $5 buys convenience, not access.

Where We're Behind, Said Plainly

Capitol Trades covers the Senate. We currently don't. Senate disclosures sit behind real bot-protection measures that make them meaningfully harder to pull reliably than the House's own data, and we'd rather be honest that it's not built yet than pretend otherwise. It's on our list, not on our site yet.

The Practical Answer

If you want to browse House disclosures for free with zero account and zero cost, our feed or Capitol Trades both do that; use Capitol Trades specifically if you also want Senate coverage in the same place. If you want an email the moment something new gets filed and you're fine with House-only for now, our $5/month Alerts does exactly that and nothing more. If congressional trades are one small feature you want folded into a much bigger trading platform you're already paying for anyway, Unusual Whales is built for that. And if you need actual API access to this data for your own project, Quiver Quantitative is the one built specifically for that, even though you'll need to create an account just to see what it costs.
